A message from the La Jolie Ronde director

La Jolie Ronde has a long and proven experience of teaching French/Spanish to young children. Established in 1983, La Jolie Ronde’s structured course is used as part of the curriculum in hundreds of top private schools around the world. In addition we also supply thousands of primary schools in the UK and Ireland with language teaching resources. As a recognised specialist in this field La Jolie Ronde is a fantastic position to enable your child to excel at language learning.

Children from as young as 5 can start learning the La Jolie Ronde structured programme in our language centres. Programmes for 0-3 and 3-4 year olds are also available. Your child can join the programme at a starting point appropriate to his/her age and learn with children of his/her own age. The course is highly structured with a precise list of vocabulary and phrases with which a pupil is expected to be familiar by the end of each stage of learning.

La Jolie Ronde pupils learn to communicate in a foreign language. That is to say, they acquire skills which will apply to learning any foreign language. They learn to listen, observe and imitate. They look for clues to help them understand – they learn to interpret gesture, expression and body language and to respond within the context of the conversation. These are skills which will be invaluable at Secondary school.

With La Jolie Ronde, the transition to Secondary language learning has been carefully prepared. La Jolie Ronde tutors are carefully selected and trained so that your child starts learning from the very first day by imitating the best accent possible. They encourage children to express themselves in French/Spanish as much as possible and not to worry too much about making a mistake. French/Spanish is used as much as possible for instructions and easy phrases. However, English is used too, as it is important for your child to understand exactly what is said and what is expected of him/her.

Children learn that they need to practise to become fluent. Practice takes many forms from the exercises, games and activities completed with the teacher, to the use of the learning CDs and activity books at home. Being actively involved means having fun and feeling confident. La Jolie Ronde is more than a club, it is an enjoyable learning experience. Children return year after year and are introduced to more songs, games and activities.

What happens during a La Jolie Ronde lesson? The structure of each lesson involves repetition and reinforcement in order to build confidence, but new vocabulary is also introduced during every lesson. Each session is very varied with songs, games, stories for the younger ones and role-plays and drama for the older children. Emphasis is very much on spoken French. Older pupils are introduced to the written form, but always through a fun activity.

The La Jolie Ronde method presents basic grammar through the language activities so that it is taken on board naturally as part of the process of learning to communicate. Everything is introduced through interesting and enjoyable tasks.

The whole programme is tested and proven, so you can be safe in the knowledge that we are not experimenting on your child with different teaching methods. La Jolie Ronde has been used successfully by thousands of children in the many language centres and schools around the world.

Children who receive the happy learning experience of La Jolie Ronde classes take away with them happy memories and a positive attitude towards language learning.

Teachers are impressed with the way young children progress year after year following the La Jolie Ronde method, although parents may not see the same evidence in the English context at home. La Jolie Ronde encourages parents to be actively involved in supporting this very worthwhile learning journey, giving children opportunities to use their French at home, encouraging them to listen to their CDs regularly and to practise the role-plays.

We hope this gives you a good insight into the La Jolie Ronde method of learning and look forward to welcoming you and your child to one of our centres soon.
